wild roses

Forgive me, Father,
for I have sinned. Knowing
their shading is sublime,
their fragrance heavenly
and their season short,
while hastening to encounter lesser things
I have driven past wild roses.

Forgive me, Father,
for I have sinned. Knowing
their value is immense,
their judgment certain
and their souls at risk,
while hastening to accomplish lesser things
I have ignored your children.

Forgive me, Father,
for I have sinned. Knowing
your abundant provision,
your effective guidance
and your fulfilling presence,
while hastening to acquire lesser things
I have forgotten to love the Lord my God.

Forgive me, Father,
for knowingly,
I have driven past wild roses.
