only then
(for Jean, Christmas 2013)
You might think
I would know you well,
after thirty six years and more,
my warm, my loving,
my beautiful.
I go with you calmly,
sit with you proudly,
walk with you hand in hand.
But know you?
I love you!
We do love, the verb,
as best we know how.
We make love happen
and it does.
And if anyone can know anyone
you would think that by now...
I would know you well.
For only then
could I love you more.
